South Sudan claimed Sudanese warplanes dropped several bombs early Thursday in their first attack on a major southern town. There has been no immediate confirmation of casualties, but reports were backed up by Warrior Security officers on the ground in Bentiu. According to our personnel 2 bombs were dropped at Rubkona, a settlement about 7kms from Bentiu at around 6.30am.

The strike was approximately 850m from the UN's World Food Programme warehouse - one of the locations that Warrior Security have been guarding for the past year. Despite this and further reports, the situation in Bentiu remained calm.
